What is Rotate PDF?

A scan that comes out sideways is annoying to read and print. This tool rotates every page, or only the pages you name, by 90 degrees clockwise, 180 degrees or 90 degrees counter-clockwise, and saves the change permanently in a new file.

How to rotate a PDF

  1. Choose the PDF with the pages that need turning.
  2. Pick the rotation: 90° clockwise, 180° or 90° counter-clockwise.
  3. Leave the Pages box empty to rotate everything, or type pages such as 2, 4-6 to rotate only those.
  4. Press Start and download the corrected file.

When Rotate PDF is useful

Landscape scans in portrait files

Turn a few wide pages upright without touching the rest.

Upside-down documents

Flip pages that were fed the wrong way into the scanner.

Preparing for print

Make sure every page has the same orientation before it is sent to a printer.

Tips for better results

If only some pages are wrong, enter just those page numbers so correct pages are not turned. Rotation is added to any rotation already in the file, so a page that looks 90° off needs a 90° or 270° turn depending on its direction. Check the result in a PDF viewer, since some programs show a preview that ignores rotation.

Good to know before you start

There are two kinds of rotation problems. In one, the page content itself is sideways, as happens when a scanner picks up a landscape page. In the other, the page is correctly drawn but marked with the wrong rotation flag. This tool changes the rotation setting of each page you select, which fixes both situations for most viewers and printers. You can rotate everything at once, or limit it to certain pages to leave the rest alone. Turning a page by 90 degrees three times has the same effect as one turn in the other direction, so choose the option that gets you there in a single step.

Why use PDFToolkit
